Meet Mette & The Story Behind Mettelina
Hi, I’m Mette.
I’m Danish by heart, Maltese by love. For years, I worked in senior
leadership roles, but I always dreamed of creating something of my own.
Mettelina began in 2010 as a hobby & little side project,
fuelled by my love for food, curiosity and a mission to create a cupcake I
would love eating myself. What started as weekend baking slowly grew, and in
2025, I finally took the leap and turned that passion into my full-time
journey.
Mettelina is my way of bringing joy to everyday moments.
It’s not just about cupcakes. It’s about celebrating passion, creativity, and
connection with every swirl of frosting and every detail crafted with
intention.
How We Bake Joy Into Every Cupcake
At Mettelina, cupcakes are made to feel light. In every way.
No butter. Less sugar. Just enough sweetness to make you pause. We love to be creative and try out new flavour combinations and use local seasonal ingredients, which is why you will see our menu change regularly.
We have created our own smooth frosting, inspired by ice cream and use high quality premium ingredients, that never cut corners. Every cupcake is crafted with care, because we believe good food can make your day just a little sweeter.
Why “Mettelina”?
“Mettelina” is my maltese nickname and was first used
lovingly by my Maltese mother-in-law. Over time, it became more than a name. It grew into a symbol of who I am and what I love, inspired by my Danish roots, my Maltese home, and my journey so far.
That blend is at the heart of our café. A space filled with care, creativity and warmth, shaped by the meeting of two cultures, my love for quality food and a passion for creating meaningful moments and connection.

Right in the heart of Valletta, we’ve created a place where you can slow down. From gourmet cupcakes and Danish sweets to glasses of bubbles or a really good coffee, everything here is chosen with intention.
This is a space for people to connect. To pause. To laugh. To celebrate the small, good things.
